It’s nearly the end of January and if you’ve been doing ‘Dry January’ or in fact any detox, you’ll know how much better your mind and body feels! (well, hopefully 🙂).

But what about your inbox?

If you’re nearing your storage limit, or if it’s full of old emails and newsletters, maybe it’s time it had a detox!!

Here’s some tips:

Folders – create a simple filing structure with folders for different types of email eg: work, home, projects and clients etc to help organise your messages and keep them in the same place.

Sort – Sorting your emails by name is a good way to group together batches of emails that can either be deleted or moved into the appropriate folders

Sorting by size is also a good idea – you’d be surprised at the emails that get left or forgotten about, but have an attachment on them – which uses up storage space as well. If you need to keep the attachment, save it somewhere else and free up the space.

Unsubscribe – rather than deleting, opt out of any unnecessary or unwanted newsletters and mailers to prevent further copies arriving in your inbox.

Send it to Spam! – Again, don’t delete any spam emails that may have found their way into your inbox. Mark them/Move them to spam to avoid repeat messages.

Moving forwards …

  • Set specific times to deal with reading and responding to your emails.
  • Work through them – if it only takes 2 minutes, deal with it straight away – flag or colour code anything that can’t be dealt with right now.
  • Try not to use your email as a to do list!

So tell me, how many emails do you have sitting in your inbox?
