There’s lots to do before you go away – packing, finding your passport, arranging for pets to be looked after etc, but what about work?

A relaxing holiday shouldn’t be interrupted by worries about emails and workload.

Here’s some tips on how get organised before you leave for your trip:

> Tell your clients well in advance (4-6 weeks).

> Prioritise critical projects so they’re completed before your break.

> Set realistic deadlines for on-going projects, allowing yourself a buffer to avoid any last minute panics.

> Set up your auto-responder for client emails – explain any limited email access and response times. Mention who they can contact for any urgent matters, if applicable.

> Clear your inbox out as much as possible. Reducing clutter makes it easier to go through your messages on return. If you don’t already have them in place, think about setting up folders to organise emails by project or client for easy reference.

> Ensure all invoices for completed work are sent before you go away.

> Set up automatic payments for any essential bills to be paid during your break to avoid any late fees being applied.

> If you can, consider adding a ‘buffer’ of a day or two on your return to allow you to catch up on emails and messages before you are drawn back into the thick of things.
